B.1976

Mesmerized by the old-world folk charm of his native China from a very young age, Fang Xiang’s renditions of idyllic Chinese courtyards and water villages have enthralled a wide international audience from the early 1990s, with his delightful melding of traditional Chinese ink and vibrant colors from the Western palette.

Born in the city of Shantou in Guangdong Province, China, in 1967, Fang Xiang graduated from the faculty of Traditional Chinese Painting of Guangzhou’s Academy of Fine Arts. A national first-class artist, member of China Artists Association, director of the Chinese Painting Society.

Fang Xiang has participated in “Shanghai Biennale”, “Beijing Art Biennale”, “Shenzhen International Ink and Wash Biennale” and other large-scale important exhibitions. He has held solo exhibitions in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, London, Bangkok, Phoenix, Louisville, Melbourne, San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Hong Kong, Singapore, etc. An agile conceptualist with an uncommon artistic imagination, Fang Xiang is regarded in both Asia and the West as one of the most definitive representatives at the forefront of the field of contemporary Chinese art. His unequivocal work has captured the hearts of viewers, collectors and critics alike, garnering him a remarkable accumulation of notable and national awards since 1990.
