LIU JIAHUA

劉家華

B.1979

The Chinese traditional building has been a symbol of Liu’s artworks from the very start of his creation – for a city is like a book to him and it witnesses the change of the social tides and the development of history. His intentional way to infuse romance in traditional culture with the collapse of the great buildings in his series of creations are well-received by many.

Liu JiaHua was born in Sichuan, China, in 1979. He graduated in 2006 from the Sichuan Academy of Fine Art. In 2009, he went to Beijing to work as an independent artist. His works garnered much attention among artists with his unique pictorial expression. Namely, a series of his works expressing the theme of “urban alienation” in the process of urbanization have received extensive attention from academic experts and the market. He borrowed the form and composition of traditional Chinese “Jiehua” as well as the fusion of various traditional and modern symbols to assemble the seemingly real but absurd reconstruction of the current urbanization process – constructing a whole new image system.

Liu’s works have been invited to participate in important exhibitions at home and abroad numerous times and won awards.
