SHEN JINGDONG
沈敬東
B.1965
Despite the war-like connotations evident in his paintings, Shen JingDong has shone new light upon the art scene. His paintings, geared with a smooth and vibrant composition technique while being infused with a magnetic touch of lively color, conjures an atmosphere of light-hearted animation and warmth.
Born in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China in 1965, Shen JingDong graduated from the fine arts class of Nanjing Xiaozhuang Teaching Education School in 1984. In 1991, he graduated from the printmaking department of Nanjing Art Institute. After graduation, he was conscripted into the Chinese military, where he remained for sixteen years until 2007 serving in the Battlefront Art Troupe of the Political Department of Nanjing Military Region. In 2008, his career soared internationally and in China – he had become a crucial contemporary artist of the new wave marked by his ‘Hero’ series. In 2014, he was appointed as Dean of the Oil Painting Academy at China Academy of Contemporary Art. At present, he lives and works in Beijing.
