ZHANG DONGHONG

張東紅

B.1967

The objects and people depicted in Zhang DongHong’s paintings are appealing, assumingly still, caught in an aura of soft light that adds to the allurement of the piece. For his portrayal of objects, such as teapots and birdcages, such play with beams and shadows will heighten the archaeological mystery of the various relics, while its effect on Zhang’s revered ladies shall place further depth upon the sensuality of their unfathomable splendor.

An unconventional artist in modern times, Zhang DongHong was born in Jilin, China, in 1967. After graduating from Jilin Art Academy with a bachelor of arts degree in fine art in 1992, he taught at the Fine Arts Department of Jilin Institute of Technology for three years before moving to Beijing in 1995, where he still lives and works.

Zhang has exhibited his work internationally since 1994 and his works are acquired by museums in both China and Japan; galleries and private collectors in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Europe and the United States. His work has been offered at auction multiple times.
